ERMC OUT OF CHATANOGGA TN. - Security Officer Jobs | Indeed.com:

After years of business success, the 62-year-old now devotes more time to his rare car collection, including a 1967 GT-500 Shelby Cobra and a Ford Roadster imported from Africa, and spends time "plowing" at the golf course.

Mr. Russell's rise was no accident, said Charles B. Lebovitz, chairman of the board for CBL & Associates Properties.
"Emerson is one of the most entrepreneurial-minded executives that I've had the pleasure of doing business with over the years," Mr. Lebovitz said.
Mr. Russell's father, a Church of God minister, taught him to spend only as much as he could afford, a lesson he said he has found useful in overseeing his 5,000-employee facilities services empire that stretches from coast to coast.

Mr. Russell's first chance to participate in the local economy was a job at Mosteller's Garage on Main Street sweeping floors for $6 per week. By age 12 he was running a wrecker truck, splitting his salary with his mother. Working his way up, learning every job he could, he saved enough money to open his own paint and body shop in 1966 at the age of 18.
"I was too young to own property so it was in my dad's name," Mr. Russell said. "He made me pay for everything, I wasn't allowed to go into debt."
In 1969, he joined the Chattanooga Police Department and became well versed with polygraph machines while still running his shop on the side, which he eventually sold in 1971.
After getting bored with only one job he decided to start a security company while still working with the police department.

TIMELINE:
Emerson Russell's career

Chattanooga Police Department -- 1969 to 1977
Russell Security -- 1975 to 1986,
Swan Services Inc. -- 1986 to 1991
ISS -- 1991 to 1993

He got his first contract to provide security guards for a warehouse when a number of polygraph tests he performed on a group of employees revealed evidence of theft, according to Mr. Russell. Stuck without guards for the warehouse, the owner, Bill Hudlow, "stayed after me for weeks to help him out." Mr. Russell accepted the job.
His second contract, in 1972, was with Northgate Mall and his third was with the precursor to CBL & Associates, Arlen Realty and Development Corp., headed by Mr. Lebovitz.
"Emerson approached us with the concept of providing security services at our properties," Mr. Lebovitz said. "From that idea, he has developed a major presence in the security industry, both locally and in many states."

Mr. Russell sold the company for $58 million to Swan Services in 1986, restarted the company and sold it again in 1996, due to health issues, for stock in a new company, Mantech.
He later purchased Mantech back for $12 million, and has grown it into a $120 million company as of July 2010.

He's still looking for "something extra," he said. With a $20 million acquisition on the horizon and a number of new neighborhoods under development, Mr. Russell is just getting started.

Spenser, Nashville TN in Nashville, Tennessee said: I had worked for ERMC as a Security Director for 2 years. My time with them was filled with stupid challanges from the corporate office in Chattanooga, TN. Keep in mind the ERMC if a family owned company so when you might have a problem with one person, you actually have a problem with all of them. You are treated as a dumb slave and not as a professional trying to do your best.

EMERSON E. RUSSELL, ET AL. v. TED W. BROWN, JR., M.D., ET AL.

Court: TCA

Attorneys:

William T. Alt, Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the appellants, Emerson E. Russell and wife, Angie Russell.

James D. Robinson and Steven M. Roderick, Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the appellees, Ted W. Brown, Jr., M.D., and Chattanooga Ear, Nose & Throat Associates, P.C.

Jennifer H. Lawrence, Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the appellees, S. Morgan Smith, M.D., and Anesthesiology Consultants Exchange, Inc.

Judge: SUSANO

Emerson E. Russell (ãthe plaintiffä) and his wife, Angie Russell, brought this suit for medical malpractice against Dr. Ted W. Brown, Jr., seeking damages associated with injuries allegedly suffered by the plaintiff as a result of a surgical procedure performed by Dr. Brown. The plaintiff also named as a defendant Dr. S. Morgan Smith, the anesthesiologist who attended the plaintiffâs surgery. In the complaint, the plaintiff averred, among other allegations, that he was not adequately informed of alternative treatments for his snoring problem, and that he was not fully advised of the attendant risks of the procedure performed by Dr. Brown. A jury returned a verdict for the defendants. Following the trial, the defendants filed separate motions for discretionary costs, which motions were granted in part and denied in part. The plaintiff and his wife appeal, arguing that the plaintiff was not furnished sufficient information to enable him to give ãinformedä consent to the surgery performed by Dr. Brown. They also contend that the trial courtâs charge to the jury on the issue of informed consent did not adequately instruct the jury on the subject. Finally, they raise several issues pertaining to evidentiary matters. As a separate issue, the defendants contend that the trial courtâs awards of discretionary costs were inadequate. We affirm the judgment of the trial court with respect to the juryâs verdict. We modify the trial courtâs two awards of discretionary costs. As modified, those awards are affirmed.

I heard that the CBL\ERMC mall in Lynchburg, Va. got rid of RSG, the landscaping contractors in favor of making 2 ERMC employees as landscaping employees to cut the grass and do all the jobs RSG did. Like 2 people can do everything a team of RSG landscapers did in 2 or 3 days to try and keep the place at least decent looking.

Emerson Russel is a dirty **** in his own right. The man got where he is buy stealing from others and any businessmen that have delt with him will say the same. He hires family into positions that they are WAY underqualified for and pays them a ridiculous wage for doing it! This company is definitely all about who you know and don't piss off rather than how good you are at what you were hired to do. Don't be suprised if there are labor laws being broken in this company but being covered up!

Also, for those in the "lower rungs", you guys making $8-$10.00 an hour. Don't feel too bad.
Emerson Russell treats his corporate guys the same way. And quite a few of them have been fired at the snap of a finger.
You can take a stroll around Chattanooga, and you won't have to go too far to find someone with an old bone to pick with good ol' Emerson.
Google his name, you'll also find alot of interesting reading.

I heard (could be rumor) that some of the ERMC upper management were on the CBL board. Like I say that could be a rumor, or just one of those things circulated to try to explain the connection between CBL and ERMC. Also, Mr. Brooklyn, I agree that in-house security is usually better to work for than contract. I think this is because the management understands how security relates to the overall business enviornment and plan. Like you I think contract security, unfortunately, has been seen by many companies as a way of "shoving off" security issues and blame on someone else.

Even if these are 'the facts', you should still be careful about putting your name out there. And yes, they can say 'something' about writing disparaging comments in a public forum. Tennessee is an "employment-at-will" state which means that you can be fired at any time without notice and for any reason.
At the very least, they could let you go for poor grammar . . .

if they fired me for something like this, because of telling the truth about how things are ran at the mall because of lack of training me and my co-worker get, i will sue the hell out of them. They cant lay you off because of word like this. And you cant be scared to express your mind. And telling the truth.

I'm not saying that you should not be expressing yourself or telling the truth. It's just that most people would not do it on an open forum like this unless you remain anonymous.
You need to realize that you can be fired for no reason in an "employment-at-will" state such as Tennessee.
There is, however, a "whistle blower" law that protects you from retaliation if you are reporting the wrong-doings of your employer. But your employer may let you go for something else and you might not be protected.
So go ahead and ignore my advice if you want to. I was just trying to help.
