"what makes it even worse is that 2-3 months ago the police raided a house where this woman was at, which is where the failure to appear comes into this story and yet she still has custody of her child....if the police would call CPS and get these children out of the mess BEFORE the child gets hurt this would not be headline news. too many children falling through the cracks....when a parent is busted for drugs, the child needs to be immediately taken from parents custody and placed in a healthy functioning home even if it means temporary foster care . in this instance, the police failed this child."

BRADLEY COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- A 3-year-old and his mother are burned in a fire, and investigators say methamphetamine is to blame.

It happened Monday night in Bradley County when the boy and his mother, 22-year-old Paula Brown were visiting friends on Greendale Drive.
Sheriff's Office Spokesman Bob Gault says the little boy opened the door when leaving and a flash fire caught his clothes on fire, burning his arm and leg.
Gault says Brown was burned on her foot while trying to stomp out the fire.

She drove to the hospital, where deputies were called.
Brown was arrested on a previous violation for failure to appear.

Gault says deputies went to the home where two people were present and found parts of a meth lab, but no other charges have been filed at this time.
