HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut lawmakers are considering legislation that could make the publishers of certain escort advertisements criminally liable for sexually exploiting minors.
Supporters of the bill have scheduled a news conference on Monday. A victim of sex trafficking, who was allegedly sold in Connecticut via an online advertisement, is scheduled to appear. Also, Raymond Bechard, author of "The Berlin Turnpike: A True Story of Human Trafficking in America," is expected to speak about his book about the well-known Connecticutroadway.
The General Assembly's Judiciary Committee is holding a public hearing Monday afternoon on the sex trafficking legislation.
Under the bill, someone could be charged with thecrime of commercial sexual exploitation of a minor if they knowingly publish, disseminate or display any "advertisement for a commercial sex act" that depicts a minor.
