Who's Counting? Not U.S. on Convictions Tied to 2008-09 Crisis - WSJ.com:

'via Blog this'
It is a question that has been asked time and again since the financial crisis: How many executives have been convicted of criminal wrongdoing related to the tumultuous events of 2008-2009?
The Justice Department doesn't know the answer.
That is because the department doesn't keep count of the numbers of board-level prosecutions. In a response earlier this month to a March request from Sen. Charles Grassley (R.,Iowa), the Justice Department said it doesn't hold information on defendants' business titles.
"Consequently, we are unable to generate the [requested] comprehensive list" of Wall Street convictions stemming from the 2008 meltdown, the letter ...
    • Can you show me the pricing models used please. Then you can debunk the myth until then its all just uneducated talk. I guarantee you the pricing models, called CAPM, show fraud. So please show the models help the poor uneducated world understand.

  • It would seem the Justice Dept is more interested in bringing suit against states and sheriffs for doing the work they should be doing on the Border - than they are in investigating financial crime that has brought our entire economy to it's knees.

They've been "stepping away from public emotion" for far too long.

  • Here is an example of the DOJ Prosecuting and filing an appeal for the light sentence. This executive seems to be the US DOJ TOP PRIORITY for what is chump change when compared to Obama's Campagin Kickoff Party Host - MF Global's Jon Corzine and the case of the simply vanishing $1.2 Billion of Midwestern USA Farmers's money.

    http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/crime/u-s-appeals-sentence-of-michael-peppel-former-mcsi-executive-1351906.html

"Federal prosecutors are challenging the seven-day jail sentence given last year to Michael E. Peppel, former top executive of MCSi Inc., for his guilty pleas to felony crimes related to the company’s 2003 collapse and insolvency.

Peppel’s sentence failed to reflect the seriousness of his offenses, provide just punishment, promote respect for the law or send a message of deterrence for those who would commit similar crimes, U.S. Attorney Carter Stewart argued in his written arguments filed with the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday.

Stewart asked the Cincinnati-based appeals court to throw out the seven-day punishment and order resentencing by U.S. District Judge Sandra Beckwith, who sentenced Peppel on Oct. 24. Prosecutors in Ohio filed an initial notice in November of their intent to appeal, but didn’t go ahead until now after obtaining approval from the U.S. solicitor general’s office in Washington. "

It is the small fish that must be crucified, not the London Whale or Jon Corzine.

  • Everybody in the US involved in this needs a degree in finance. There are models used to price these groups of mortgages that were securitized and sold as aaa. This is not open for individual interpretation the discount rate and the default rate are the only risk factors in mortgages as the cash flows are fixed and known. So show us the models, show us the default rates used to get the discount rate sorry folks we have 50 years of default data so the claim we didn't know is bogus. This is not for talk, this is for financial modeling does anybody know what I'm talking about, does anybody in the press, gov or this blog know what CAPM is. If not you're talking nonesense.

  • This account of fraud on Wall Street says that the DOJ has done nothing:

The director of the Oscar-winning documentary "Inside Job," Charles Ferguson, pointed out earlier this year the widespread fraud involved in the mortgage scandals. Despite corporations having hired people to forge thousands of signatures, "not only has nobody gone to jail, but there haven't even been any criminal prosecutions. Literally zero under the Obama administration."

    ...

The rest of the media paid much more mind to the latest person accusing Herman Cain of sexual misconduct than to new revelations about common corporate crime and how corporations get away with it. The White House seemed not to have noticed. We heard nothing from the Department of Justice. Democratic leaders in Congress did not express any outrage, let alone order a new investigation.

The media would rather report on Gloria Allred's latest charade against another Republican rather than report the non-actions of the DOJ, SEC, etc.

The following is a stupid comment. This mortgage crisis has been brewing for twenty years. Obama had nothing to do with it. Read "Bushwhacked." It explains a lot.

The book is plainly written, not dull, and not "catty." It just lays it right out there. Unfortunately, I suspect that any Bush "fan" would simply stop reading it after the first chapter, rather than confront the information offered. I predict you will see very few, if any, reviews that oppose this book by rebutting its facts; watch carefully and guage the balance between people who actually tackle what this books says, and those who slough it off with lazy and cowardly phrases like "more liberal [insert cliche dismissive term here.]"
Go, Molly!
