That whole "fill it out so your area gets money" bs is a load of crap, used to manipulate you. It manipulated me, last time, and probably a lot of others in my town. We don't seem to be doing any better.
Boycotting the 2011 census, will I get a record?
So the census arrived through the post the other day, my a-political and very law-abiding house-mate has dutifully filled it in already and oh so subtly left the page open for 'person two' open for where I normally sit.
I want to boycott the census, should I
A. Pretend to send it off but really not, keeping in mind that my house mate will murder me if she finds out.
B. Refuse to fill in my part entirely (the state will probably assume only one person lives here and not know someone is boycotting - although could someone verify this?)
C. Spoil the form and fill it in with stuff like 'None of your business' and 'Lockheed makes money out of killing children'
The state likes to scare us with prosecutions and what not if we don't comply, but what is the likelihood I would really get convicted, I want to be a teacher when I'm older and to be honest I really don't want a criminal record.
What are you guys doing?

Perhaps I should clarify, I have strongly held political reasons for boycotting the census, some of which are examined in this youtube video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zkq9hdGSs… I also object to the intrusive nature of the questions in general.

I am a middle aged mother with kids. I am going to write a letter attached to the form saying something like" with the greatest of respects i am returning this form because i feel unable to complete it on moral, spiritual, and ethical grounds..I can not support this when i know it is connected to the firm lockheed martin who makes money from warfare. i believe in the Path of Love and Truth not violence and do not want it on my conscience to knowingly collaborate with such an organisation."
To the many people who say "ah well your local community needs the money for schools etc etc and services so you should just fill it in" I reply "So, that makes it okay does it? it is okay if MY community is fine, never mind the community"somewhere else" who gets bombed etc, that makes it alright does it? We are all one community and one family in my eyes.
If enough people say no on ethical grounds ......

- If you really want to boycott unfit companies, you should consider all the others that are equally bad and boycott them too. This will probably reduce you to the status of a caveman but you'll feel better.
The questions are not intrusive, have been thoroughly tested and reduced to the minimum that the Office of National Statistics feels necessary. And if you want to be a teacher, you really don't want to risk even the slightest chance of a criminal record. Fill the thing in. It's better for all of us if the census is as complete as possible.- 1 year ago

- What on earth is your problem. All they ask is where you work and how many rooms you have in your house, its the same info as people have been giving in the Uk for 200 years. Yes you will be fined, they are stepping up this year, AND it will appear on an Enhanced CRB which you need to be a Teacher.
Grow up and just do it. You will have to give out more info than that if you want to have a professional job.- 1 year ago

- Do as I do. go abroad for a few days including census night . not here ,so no need to fill anything in .
As you rightly remark it is intrusive. but if your English ,you are recognised. not like the last census.
