You're fucking kidding me.

When she opens her mail, Loretta Robinson is unsure if she is going to receive any more bills related to the tragic death of her son, Justin Walker, at the hands of drunk driver Anna Gonzalez in Greenville, SC.
Ms. Robinson is out of pocket thousands of dollars in fees that included vehicle removal, and wrecked vehicle storage that she dutifully paid every month to preserve the evidence of her son's vehicle. It would be a fair question to ask why a mother would be forced to undergo such financial hardship for law enforcement to do their job. Why didn't the police or at least the district attorney's office pay for these obviously legal related matters? Why would a mother be forced to pay to store evidence in hopes that one day her son would find justice?
But that isn't the worst part of the story.
She received a heartless letter demanding payment to a charge of $50 to clean her son's blood off of the street. Could you imagine? Your beloved child is tragically dead and the city is knocking on your door with their hand out to clean up a mess someone else made with the blood of your child.
Wy4ff.com reports Loretta Robinson pleaded her case before the judge and said. "First of all, having to open the mail and look at the charge to the deceased, Justin Darryl Walker -- the deceased! It's just a hard thing to deal with in the context of your child." She went on to say that she has had trouble keeping employment since her son's death.
There is a state victim's assistance fund that does provide some money but its primary function is to help subsidize the cost of funerals, and medical and also counseling services.
The state says "Here, let us pay for therapy sessions for you, as you are obviously distraught.", but the city says "Why don't you pay us for scrubbing your son's blood off the road?"
The whole scenario is bizarre and part of a growing tone deafness in our country to the suffering of those left behind by unplanned horrific circumstances.
The drunk driver, Anna Gonzalez, is an illegal immigrant. She was found guilty and is now serving a 17 year prison sentence. For the record, she never possessed a state driver's license.
