Phone feature tracks stolen phone to police officer

A Baton Rouge police officer has been arrested and charged with felony theft and malfeasance in office after being accused of stealing an iPhone while on the job.

According to police, Officer Jake Chustz, 27, was assisting in a vehicle crash that resulted in a DWI arrest on June 2, 2012. When the person was released from jail after his DWI arrest, he was not able to find his phone which was left in his vehicle.

The victim of the theft used the "Find My iPhone" feature under his iCloud account and discovered that the cell phone name was changed to "Jake Chustz's iPhone."

The victim recognized the name as one of the officers who assisted with his wreck and DWI arrest.

He called the Baton Rouge Police Department Internal Affairs Division and filed a complaint.

Chustz, who was hired in July 2007, resigned July 12, immediately following his arrest.

Chustz was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on $10,000 bond.
