A 24-year-old man was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound Monday night in a street-corner residence near downtown, Interim Police Chief John Manley said.
Jonathan Whitehurst Carson was discovered by a friend in an apartment in the 600 block of West Colonial Avenue, Manley said. Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services Director Jerry Newell said that his personnel were dispatched at 10:23 p.m. and that Carson was dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Greenville said the office has received Carson’s body, with an autopsy anticipated sometime today.
The residence is at the northwest corner of Colonial and Locust Street. Manley said he believes Carson lived at that location.
Elizabeth City police and the State Bureau of Investigation were at the scene through Monday evening, Manley said. Manley said that his department and the SBI are continuing to conduct a probe.
