The new generation dog fighters are more so gamblers than the old timers. Before crack, which made lots of inner city ghetto kids lots of money, there was the working man involved, who couldn't bet the big money.
First you have to raise the pup for 2years before you could find out if he was match worthy. 2 years of feed, vet bills, wormer, and pesticides for his environment. A working man couldn't recoup that investment on what he could afford to bet, even if he doubled the bet after each win.
