'via Blog this'MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Two Alabamians convicted of running a stolen identity fraud ring that took millions from the Internal Revenue Service have been sentenced to federal prison.
Veronica Dale, of Montgomery, Ala., and Alchico Grant of Lowndes County, Ala., were each sentenced to more than 25 years in prison and ordered to pay almost $3 million in restitution to the IRS.
Dale and Grant were convicted of using the stolen identities of Medicaid beneficiaries to file fraudulent tax returns. The U.S. Department of Justice says in a news release that the two filed more than 500 returns between 2009 and 2010 asking for almost $4 million.
The two had also pleaded guilty to another scheme where they deposited between $400,000 and $1 million from fraudulent tax returns to prepaid debit cards.
