Let me get this straight...JPMorgan, Deutche Bank and Bank of America invested in this failing corrections company (ie jails across America).
Wall Street manipulated stocks and brokers sold stocks they did not have. They misrepresented mortgage backed securities as good when they were actually "shit" investments. Banks loaned money to criminals and were lax in underwriting, causing all kinds of shenanigans. Many homeowners were fraudulently foreclosed upon.
People are left homeless as homes stand empty, hardly anyone is able to get justice in our courts, and now there's talk of bringing back debtor's prison?
1999:
"NASHVILLE — Prison Realty Trust Inc. shares tumbled to their lowest ever after the largest private prison owner said it would slash dividend payments and oust its chief executive.
Prison Realty shares fell 9% to close at $5.25, rebounding from as low as $4.50, after the company said it would end its status as a real estate investment trust, cutting the 44% dividend yield that attracted investors. To avoid taxes, REITs must pay out at least 95% of net income to shareholders.
The move to conserve cash came as new investors--Blackstone Group, Fortress Investment Group and a unit of Bank of America--agreed to a $350-million infusion. Credit Suisse First Boston and Lehman Bros. Holdings Inc. also arranged a new $1.2-billion credit line. Proceeds will be used to replace an existing $1-billion loan and finance operations for the company, which will be renamed Corrections Corp. of America."
Private Prison Company to Demand 90% Occupancy
Thursday, February 16, 2012
The nation’s largest private prison company is offering cash-strapped state governments to buy up their penitentiaries and manage convicted criminals at a cost-savings. But there’s a catch…the states must guarantee that are there are enough prisoners to ensure that the venture is profitable to the company.

CCA Prison Trust
http://www2.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/04-20-1998/0000634740&EDATE=
1998:
"The merger of CCA and PZN will allow the respective shareholders of both
companies to benefit from every type of private sector/public sector
partnership: facilities owned and managed by CCA, those owned by government
and managed by CCA, those owned by PZN and managed by CCA, and those owned by
PZN and managed by government. We are enthusiastic about the possibilities
for growth in all of these areas."
(If you own a prison you want it to grow in order to make money, and there'd be no incentive for rehabilitation, right? Could this be why nobody is getting very far in our courts?)
"Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) has reached out to 48 states as part of a $250 million plan to own existing prisons and manage their operations. But in return CCA wants a 20-year contract and assurances that the state will keep the prisons at least 90% full"
A creditor goes to court and gets a judgment for an unpaid debt. The debtor is then summoned to court to be questioned by the creditor, who wants to know about assets that could be seized. It's called a "pay or appear" hearing in Illinois.
If the debtor doesn't show up, the creditor asks the judge for an arrest order. In Illinois, that's called a "body attachment."
(The fact that ID theft is something like the third biggest crime in America should make debtor's prison unthinkable.)
"PZN acquires and owns correctional and detention facilities from both
private prison managers and governmental entities. The company has elected to
be treated as a real estate investment trust under the Internal Revenue Code.
PZN currently owns 20 facilities in nine U.S. states."

....in the summer of 1998, six prisoners escaped from its facility in Youngstown, Ohio, garnering national attention and bringing renewed criticism of the private prison industry. |
http://articles.latimes.com/1999/dec/28/business/fi-48285
Former Chairman Thomas W. Beasley, who was Crants' roommate at West Point and one of three founders in the company, will become interim chairman immediately and interim chief executive when Crants steps down.
Crants' son, Robert Crants III, who was president of Prison Realty, will also resign effective immediately. His interim replacement is J. Michael Quinlan, president and COO of Corrections Corp.
The restructuring is a turnabout for the company, which Crants turned into a REIT in April 1998. Shareholders protested that plan, which took the company from a high-growth prison operator, whose shares had jumped about 90% a year between 1993 and 1997, to a slow-growth but high-dividend-paying real estate company.
Crants defended the move, saying with the economy so strong, state governments had little incentive to hand over the management of prisons to private operators. Instead, the future was in building and owning prisons for states.
Then in the summer of 1998, six prisoners escaped from its facility in Youngstown, Ohio, garnering national attention and bringing renewed criticism of the private prison industry.
Another blow came in May, when the company disclosed it would increase the fees it pays to the affiliated prison-management company owned by Crants to keep that company afloat. Analysts estimates that could cost the company another $90 million a year.

FORECLOSURE FRAUD 101 – FRAUDCLOSING ON A DEFAULT WHEN THERE IS NO DEFAULT IN ORDER TO STEAL MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT (FDIC)
This little gem comes over from Mark Stopa…
Take a look at this Final Judgment, where a borrower prevailed over BB&T at trial. Yes, the bank was sleazier than the skuz on the bottom of my shoes, declaring this borrower in default when there was no default. But take a close look at WHY the bank did so. As the Final Judgment reflects, the bank was financially motivated to declare a default because it knew the government was going to pay the mortgage in the event of default. As if that’s not disgusting enough, what makes it even worse was that BB&T did not even loan the money – a prior bank did. Yet as a result of a deal with the FDIC, BB&T was in the position of pocketing millions of dollars from our government merely by declaring this borrower in default. This should piss off everybody in America – a bank that didn’t loan money wrongly declares a default so it can collect millions from our government. Where is the outrage?
Don’t believe me? Don’t take my word for it – read the findings of Judge Levens in thisFinal Judgment.
From the judgment…
The evidence adduced at trial and considered by the court demonstrated that Plaintiff breached it duties of good faith and fair dealing in its contractual relationship with Defendants. The evidence also demonstrated that Plaintiff was motivated to behave in such as manner as a direct result of the PSA; that is, Plaintiff stood to profit by declaring a fraudulent default under the subject loan, collecting from the FDIC under the PSA for such default, and then enforcing the subject loan against Defendants, and retaining the property until such time as a real estate turnaround occurred in hopes to dispose of the property at the peak of the market.

PRIVATE PRISON COMPANY TO DEMAND 90% OCCUPANCY
The nation’s largest private prison company is offering cash-strapped state governments to buy up their penitentiaries and manage convicted criminals at a cost-savings. But there’s a catch…the states must guarantee that are there are enough prisoners to ensure that the venture is profitable to the company.
Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) has reached out to 48 states as part of a $250 million plan to own existing prisons and manage their operations. But in return CCA wants a 20-year contract and assurances that the state will keep the prisons at least 90% full.
In the past CCA has operated its own prisons and contracted with states to house inmates. But until now the company never offered to essentially take over public corrections systems.
