'via Blog this'The brakes failed on a school bus, causing it to crash into the back of another bus just before 10 this morning, injuring nine students and one adult on Route 602 near Millbrook Village in Hardwick Township, according to Deb Nordeen,Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area spokeswoman, and New Jersey State Police at Hope.
The injuries were minor, including bumps and bruises, police said. Six patients were taken to Newton Memorial Hospital and four to the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.
There were about 80 people, mostly students, on the buses, Nordeen said.
The students were from Montclair High School is Essex County, Nordeen said.
All of the injuries were minor, Nordeen said. A set of four buses was heading down a steep hill during a trip to the YMCA's Camp Mason in Hardwick Township when the collision occurred, Nordeen said.
Each bus was carrying between 40 and 45 students, Nordeen said.
The crash on Route 602 was inside the national recreation area near Millbrook Village.
Rescue squads from Stillwater, N.J., Blairstown Township, Knowlton Township, Portland and the Allamuchy-Green rescue squad responded. New Jersey State Police and National Park Service rangers are conducting the investigation.
Police have impounded the bus on which the brakes failed, police said.
