The more you deny your body of sweets, the easier it will become; though it may not seem like it at first. Fruits and vegetables are not bad for you, but overall one should avoid Genetically Modified foods--go organic. The price may be a little spendy, but it certainly compensates in the flavor and health departments. Even skim milk is damaging to the kidneys. Raw milk is easily digested. If you 'must' have a sweetener, try raw honey. I've recently discovered agave juice, and while it is an acquired taste, I'm finding it quite good. Have you been assessed for candida albicans? Massive sugar cravings are just one of the many symptoms. Good luck.

HFCS is banned from the White House? Why is this ingredient allowed in our food system? Look at the increase in all these diseases and overlay the spike with the exact time that HFCS was approved by the FDA for use to replace sucrose in processed foods. HFCS is poisoning our country and costing billions in medical treatment.
Recent studies also suggest than a sugar overdose can lead to memory loss, even Alzheimer's.

Has 60 Minutes checked out <Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology>? His research on HFCS contribution to obesity and type 2 diabetes appears to be very informative. Only 60 Minutes can proved the actual change to make things happen. I believe 60 Minutes is the most powerful medium available today.

The only problem with your assertion is that the studies show no difference in the response to HFCS or Fructose. In fact, the regular fructose found in fruit (when extracted) do the same things to your body as HFCS. So juicing could cause the same thing when the pulp is removed. The way God intended us to eat includes the fiber with the sugar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM is a 90 min lecture by Dr Lustig at UCSF he is an endocrinologist and knows how this works.

The danger of sugar is how it fuels germ overgrowth in the body. Any of these added sugars can do that. "Moderation" of added glucose, fructose, and sucrose may kill you slower but they will kill you. The epidemic of western disease disease was sparked long before HFCS was invented. HFCS just turned it into a wildfire.

CBS, please show pictures of products with HFCS - it is COMPLETELY misleading to show products that are made of natural sweeteners, sucrose, glucose and fructose. Unlike these sweeteners,High Fructose Corn Syrup is processed in the liver, and the fructose molecule is SEPARATED from the glucose molecule. The fructose in HFCS is differ from that in a sucrose molecule bcuz:

    1. It is chemically altered using lye and other items

    2. The isomer of the molecule is actually flipped meaning it does not "fit" where it is supposed to when being metabolized

    3. the fructose in sugar and fruit are "bound" molecules enabling them to be processed as God intended. Fructose in HFCS is a free molecule and this is a problem. it's like separating the sodium and chloride in salt or the hydrogen and oxygen in water. VERY different chemicals when they are separated, which is what HFCS does to the fructose.

Sucrose, glucose and natural fructose are all fine in moderation. HFCS isn't. Avoid it if you want to live a long healthy life.

Chemicals and pesticides are a secondary issue to sugar. Cancer and other diseases of western society are fueled by inflammation. Inflammation is caused by the immune system's response to germ overgrowth in the body. This germ overgrowth is fueled by over nutrition,of which sugar is a major component.

I would recommend the book "The Fat Loss Guidebook" by Mike Rabe. The author does a very good job of explaining the consequences of refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup in our diet.

Dr. Mark Hyman's *Blood Sugar Solution* links "Diabesity" to dementia. Dementia!
Reply to this comment Ever wonder why cancer researchers use sugar-rich mediums to grow and study cancer cells?
The answer is simple... CANCER THRIVES IN SUGAR! As do most bacteria.
Also, digestible carbohydrates metabolize into glucose (blood sugar).

If everyone drastically reduced consumption of sugars from sweets, some fruits, and starchy foods, you'd see the cancer incidence rate fall through the floor!
Not to mention, obesity would become a thing of the past!

You make a good point--HFCS is most definitely diabolical. Perhaps this is MSM's way of diverting from the real issue (HFCS). Someone else on this thread also made a good point--just another thing they can "tax" or penalize; just like cigarettes, trans fats, etc. Just another way they can control our lives. But make no mistake, the US government is hell bent on poisoning the masses; which is why GMO's are rarely labeled.

Any sugar is bad for you, If it's added, you shouldn't eat it, Doesn't matter if it's corn syrup, honey, whatever.

US President Barack Obama's household will no longer see corn syrup. Wife Michelle said that over the last year, the entire family has shifted to organic food and are setting up an organic garden in the White House. The change occurred when their daughter Sasha was declared obese by a paediatrician and Michelle started looking through the kitchen cabinet and realised they were eating fast food several days a week and drinking packaged fruit juices. She read the labels to see that there's high-fructose corn syrup in everything. Now, the family gets their sugar dose from fruits, instead.

I truly believe that sugar IS toxic. I gave up sugar a year ago and ALL of my health problems have slowly disappeared. I believe if we could get people to give up sugar it would be much better for our health care system. A friend of mine with MS recently gave up sugar also and cannot believe the difference in how she feels. Read the book Sugar Blues and you will see what sugar has done to our world. Sugar is sugar , whether it is honey or maple syrup or agave - it's not good for you. And of course, artificial sweeteners are even worse.

HFCS is so demonized is because it is so prevalent throughout our Standard American Diet (SAD). The only time HFCS can be put to really good use is if you are going to exercise hard as in a bike marathon. HFCS or any fructose product is assimilated like alcohol only by the liver so if you're not burning it immediately, your storing it as fat while creating a very unhealthy fatty liver at the same time. Alcohol is regulated for many good reasons and maybe sugar should too as you will see tonight.
The reason that our surgeon general is not able to do anything about this is because her hands are tied. One of our ex surgeon generals by the name of Richard Carmona was called to speak at Congressional hearings which I recommend you look up on YouTube and he explained how he was so disgusted with his inability to instruct the public because of the limitations placed on him.

I completely agree! We, as AMERICAN'S, are addicted to sugar, and it's spreading to other countries! I'm looking forward to watching this piece.

There are different types of sugar than table sugar (sucrose). Sucrose is a disaccaride (ie. made of two different sugars), composed of fructose and glucose. Honey and maple syrup both contain large amounts of fructose. Fructose is the sugar that Dr. Lustig is most concerned about.

I recommend watching Sugar: The Bitter Truth http://youtu.be/dBnniua6-oM and learning more, before you make a snap judgement.

Sugar is one form of carbohydrates. Excess carbohydrates in our diet is what causes us to get fat, and causes (or contributes to) dozens of diseases. See Gary Taubes, "Good Calories Bad Calories" on how high dietary carbohydrates is killing us.
Local is where we must direct our efforts-homes,schools,churches,and worksites. Economic sanctions is what changes government policy. Politicians work for corporations. We have to change the corporations we buy from. They will then put the pressure on politicians.

Any sweetner that spikes your blood sugar is bad...makes no difference what it is... cane sugar, honey, agave, etc..."chemical" sugars are a no brainer

I'm making a documentary about Sugar.http://sugardaddymovie.wordpress.com/ I'd love to interview you.
Finally! A bigger chunk of America will get the message. by msob89 March 31, 2012 9:11 PM EDT
This is about the children, if as an adult you choose to not pay heed, that is your choice. But as for the children, choices are made by their parents. I hope as parents you put your bias aside and consider what they are saying. As an adult if you want to eat sugar on your deathbed - do it. As a guardian of your child - this may be an important finding that could benefit your child tremendously. Knowledge is power - take the power, for your childs sake. We are in crisis in this country. NOt only sugar but all the chemicals in our foods as well. We need to make serious changes. If it starts with sugar -at least we are starting. Children deserve a healthy start!!!

About 18 months ago I was overweight and sedentary. I was drinking 3-4 cans of soda each day. I gave up sugar (and a lot of carbs), and in a year lost 80 pounds. Ran a 15k (9.3 miles) with my daughter a couple of weeks ago, and I am feeling great now. I will definitely trade a good-tasting piece of pie for some extra quality years of life. A friend of mine lost OVER 200 pounds the same way. No sugar in our house!

My husband suffered with diabetes for 20 years. Seeing physician regularly, doing everything he was told. In 2002 he was on 43 units of insulin, had severe neuropathy in both feet and could not walk over 75 feet without sitting down. His weight was 280 pounds (he is 5'10"). He had profuse night sweats, was always tired and irritable. After reading Dr. Richard Bernstein's book, and Gary Taubes, I came up with a program we could live with. In 2003, within 3 months on our program, my husband came off of all insulin, within 9 months he lost 80 pounds (since he has lost another 20 pounds for a total of 100 pounds lost), he has walked in 2 5K races and finished. He is totally free of neuropathy pain and off of Neurotin (pain medication since 2004). He is off of diuretic medication that he was on for over 30 years. His irritability is gone. Night sweats gone! Psoriasis on elbows - gone. Sleep apnea - gone! He is and has been for the past 9 years now the wonderful man I married 51 years ago! Oh yes, blood sugars are in the 95 to 100 range fasting blood.
Yes, sugar kills. Our processed foods are FULL of sugar. Low fat foods are FULL of sugar. They take out the fat and put in the carbohydrates! That is why we have seen diabetes cases increase 3 fold in the past 30 years!

I am so happy that you are showing reporting on this. I've been preaching it for all these years and people look at me like I am nuts. Sugar/ Carbohydrates not only kill us, they also greatly diminish our quality of life. Thank you so much for this program.
The biggest drug dealers of all time - sugar producers.

Getting off sugar and gluten resulted in a loss of 120 #'s, in 11 months. Best way I've learn to keep cancer from coming back.

Anyone read the book "Sugar Blues"? It was published in the mid 1970's. Dr. Atkins was also onto something when he did research on different kinds of carbs. Dr. Mercola and Dr. Oz have been sounding the alarms as well. Why are we just realizing that sugar, in all manufactured forms, is toxic to the system? This subject has been researched for over 40 years! I hope the MD interviewed for this piece gets alot of airtime! Good for him!
