Hiring: The Fresh Market Employee Reviews: CHINESE OVERTIME

The Fresh Market Employee Reviews | Indeed.com:

'via Blog this'Produce Manager (Former Employee), Normal, IL – April 16, 2012
Cons: pay, hours, benefits
This place pays no holidays, no concern for associates or traditional family values. Has a pay scale that they call chinese overtime for managers, the more you work over 40 hrs the less you are paid per hour. One of the worse places that I have ever worked.

This is a great place to work if you want to do a little bit of everything. At the store there is potential to work in multiple departments or transfer between them to become a more valuable employee.

Pros: hours
Cons: pay, cheat you out of benefits, no opportunity for advancement, and set up for failure
Completely over worked and under paid if your trying to get anywhere in life excepts a dead end. Everyone that worked there more worried about how to get around the work and leave for some one else to do then actually earn there money. Beautiful store to find quality and unusual food items
Customer Service, Bakery (Current Employee), Cornelius, NC – April 12, 2012
Pros: discounts on products, varied schedule each week, i am respected by management and customers.
Cons: working on holidays
I have a flexible schedule so my work varies but always includes packaging or preparing products to sell. Every moment a customer approaches I offer a sample or ask if they need help. The bakery has a bakery manager and there are also store managers and assistants. Various staff in the bakery decorate or bake products. The most difficult part of the – more...

Front End Manager/ Scanning Coordinator (Former Employee), Tampa, FL – March 15, 2012
Pros: i liked most of the people who i worked with.
Cons: men who did the same job as a woman, were always paid a higher salary.
This was a workplace that was dominated by men who like to over assert their authority. I was physically pushed by a male assistant manager and I was talked to by human resources and he was promoted to the corporate office.

Baker (Former Employee), Westport CT – March 6, 2012
Pros: the hot lunches there are great, and its a beautiful store .
Cons: very deceiving management team .
The Fresh Market wasn't one of my favourite jobs, as a matter of fact I left because I am a very positive person and that store is very negative . They are never satisfied . They have a high turnover rate for employees, many people come in and actually leave on the first day ! Not a great a place if your serious about working .

Classy grocery store.
Cashier (Former Employee), Greenville, SC – March 1, 2012
The Fresh Market is not your average store. It's very classy. They even play classical music as you shop! Everything is kept very neat and clean. It felt like home because most of the employees I've known for years! Great place to work with great people!

Demands your entire life revolve around them
Asst. Mgr. of Store Operations (Former Employee), Bloomington/Peoria, IL. – February 29, 2012
Pros: very nice customers
Cons: very erratic work scheduling, upper tier management non supportive.
73-81 hrs, scheduled weekly. District Mgr. was a "Vince Lombardi" type of manager. "Bi-Polar" personality.

Benefits (medical) were above average. A lot of "split-shift" schedule.

Mgmt. (Dist. Mgr.) did not want you to take lunch or dinner break(s).

Cons: everything else
by far the worst job i have had in my 15 years of working. Management was just clueless. if you had a problem don't go to them because nothing will happen. Nothing. Pay was horrible. Arn1 – February 24, 2012

Might I just say, this is completely nonfactual in terms of relevance to the company. At my store, in an extremely affluent community, minorities are the majority and do EXTREMELY well. Everyone does pretty well though. Yes, there are good days and bad days but the management are always willing to work with customers and employees to make the store better. Also, the managers truly believe their job is to make their employees do well and look good, not themselves. sh Market Employer Reviews

Grocery and Dairy Team Member (Current Employee), Horsham, PA – June 29, 2012
Pros: up scale looking appearence and excellent sushi dept.. that's about it.
Cons: all was mentioned in my review.
Fresh Market is a low paying poorly managed company with a revolving employee and management door that discourages the employee in every way possible. Co workers come and go very quickly due to the lack of supervisorial support.

TFM provides a hostile work envoronment and discriminates against certain individuals at times. Management lends little to no support to co-workers, not a pleasant work experience.

Interesting product and great customer service, poor systems
Asst Store Manager (Current Employee), Greensboro, NC – June 18, 2012
Pros: 20% discount
The Fresh Market took the company public 18 months ago. They are now adding stores at an alarming rate. So much so that store openings are very chaotic and training of permanent staff is very poor, culminating in problems maintaining customers and revenue. They are scheduled to expand into California very shortly and I seriously question if they can – more...

I loved the Fresh Market until a very special employee was fired based on an irrational and emotional claim that later the employee who made the claim regretted and openly said she never meant for the employee to get fired. Assistant Deli Manager (Current Employee), Center Valley, PA – June 6, 2012
Friendly store environment. However, the store is very understaffed. The lines of communication are nonexistent. I learned and continue to learn a great deal about people, how they work and different ways to manage.

Bakery Clerk (Current Employee), Fort Wayne, IN – June 1, 2012
The staff are all down to earth, fun, caring and make one proud to be part of the team. Store Managers are attentive and upbeat. Staff is encouraged to be creative and involve the customer in experiencing our extensive, imported and unusual product lines.

The Fresh Market is a special place to work. It raises the bar for retail grocery in my area.

Gift Center Specialist, (Current Employee), Marietta, GA – May 31, 2012
Pros: employee discoulnts, 401k, and medical and dental benefits.
Cons: no holiday pay or days off.
This company is BIG on customer delight. This is their main focus. The best part of the daily is seeing your special customers come in. Over time I have built a strong customer base and they make you feel apart of their family and community. This is my greatest reward.

Management (Current Employee), Jackson, MS – May 26, 2012
Pros: company is rapidly expanding, promotions, great locations.
Cons: the stores have limited limited grocery items
A very non-typical grocery store. Quaint smaller stores that open your eyes to the how a store should be. Relaxing "market style" environment with customer service as the main goal....

I worked for the fresh market for 5 months, that turned out to be the worst months of my life. I was an assistant front end manager who wasn't constantly harrassed by employees and managers alike. bad place to work

The Fresh Market is a horrible place to work. I got fired over my register was off by $10 and was falsely accused of taking the money by a front end supervisor.
